English Teacher – Hackney, London

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

A secondary school in Hackney is seeking to appoint a qualified English Teacher to join its team from September 2025. The successful candidate will teach English across Key Stages 3 and 4, with opportunities to contribute to Key Stage 5 depending on experience and departmental needs.
The English department has a strong reputation within the school, supported by a clear curriculum, experienced colleagues, and a commitment to reflective practice. The school values subject expertise and provides ongoing professional development within a supportive and collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver high-quality English lessons that support student progress and engagement
  • Contribute to curriculum development and departmental planning
  • Assess and monitor student performance in line with school policies
  • Take part in whole-school life, including extracurricular and enrichment opportunities
The successful candidate will:
  • Hold PGCE/QTS (or equivalent) and a degree in English or a related subject
  • Have experience teaching English at secondary level
  • Possess strong subject knowledge and understanding of current curriculum expectations
  • Be committed to enabling all students to achieve their potential, regardless of starting point
