1:1 Learning Support Assistant – Primary School - Brent/London

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated
Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a Reception Class team at one of our fabulous clients in Brent/London. The successful candidate will provide one-on-one support to a non-verbal child with sensory-seeking behaviours, helping them to engage with daily routines and classroom activities.
This role is integral in ensuring the child’s educational, social, and emotional development in a nurturing, structured, and inclusive environment.
The Role- Individualised Support: Provide tailored support for a non-verbal child with sensory needs, helping them engage in classroom activities and routines.
- Sensory Integration: Assist in the implementation of sensory activities to help the child manage sensory seeking behaviours, ensuring their sensory needs are met in a safe and controlled manner.
- Promote Communication: Encourage alternative communication methods (such as PECS, sign language, or communication devices) to support the child in expressing their needs, wants, and thoughts.
- Routine Management: Help the child learn and follow daily routines in the classroom, using visual schedules, cues, and other supportive techniques to reinforce consistency and structure.
- Behavioural Support: Implement strategies to support the child’s behaviour, using positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques in line with the school’s behaviour management policy.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and other support staff to ensure the child’s learning plan is followed and regularly reviewed.
- Progress Monitoring: Observe and record the child’s progress in various areas, including communication, social skills, and sensory regulation, and report this information to the class teacher and SENCO.
- Classroom Assistance: Provide general support to the teacher and other students, ensuring the child is included in group activities where possible, and fostering an inclusive classroom environment.
- Training and Development: Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to increase understanding of SEN (Special Educational Needs), particularly in supporting children with non-verbal communication and sensory needs.
